The Mirena IUD is birth control device made by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.   It is a medical device that is placed into a woman’s body to prevent pregnancy.  Problems with Mirena IUD’s have arisen when the device spontaneously perforates the uterus and migrates into the abdomen or pelvic.   Radiology such as x-rays, CT-scans, abdominal or vaginal ultrasounds become necessary to locate the missing Mirena IUD so the woman can have surgery to remove it.   When this occurs the woman will not be able to have the Mirena removed in her doctor’s office or clinic, but will then need to go to a hospital.
