Texas has major highways crisscrossing the state including interstate 10 (I-10), interstate 35 (I-35), interstate 45 (I-45).   Tremendous amounts of traffic flow in and out of San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Houston along these interstates.   Tractor trailers, also known as 18-wheelers or semi’s dominate these roadways and have lead to serious crashes and accidents involving deaths and traumatic brain injuries.   Because of the volume of 18 wheelers traveling on these highways, extreme care should be used when merging onto the highways from on ramp and while exiting onto off ramps at various exits along I-10, I-35 and I-45.   If you experience mechanical trouble with your vehicle, you should call 911 and pull over as far as possible on the shoulder, away from the lanes of traffic.  It is also advisable to get out of your car or truck (if safe) to avoid being in it in case a car crashes into your car on the shoulder.  If you have road flares or emergency triangles, you should put them out to increase visibility for upcoming traffic.
